World Music Workshop Band
For the second year running the Vortex is hosting the five-day World Music Big Band Summer Workshop and Friday night gig, run by trombonist Annie Whitehead. Following the week's workshops the band will be playing big band material from South Africa, Jamaica, America through to Cuban and contemporary British jazz. The band features Jennifer Maidman (bass), Nico Ramsden (guitar) and Mark Huggett (drums) plus four trumpets, four trombones and seven saxophones. 'A big, colourful riotous mix of world meets funk meets workshop band!' Last year's workshop was a runaway success, and the Friday night Vortex gig filled the club to capacity.
