Event information

If your definition of a singer-songwriter has been somewhat compromised by the term encompassing anyone, male or female, who strums an acoustic guitar, then it’s time for a modicum of clarification.

Enter Sean Taylor, one of the most exciting and hard-working talents on the roots and blues scene. Armed with (you guessed it) with an acoustic guitar (and piano too) and loaded with a plethora of self-penned songs reminiscent of early Van Morrison and John Martyn, Taylor can safely lay claim to owning that singer-songwriter tag with complete justification.
In simple prose: the man can write, the man can sing.

Mojo magazine calls his work “articulate and compelling” and Taylor’s smoky, reflective tone informs his superbly-structured songs with a nuance and a depth often lacking in today’s breed of songsmiths.

His songs are expressive hymns to love, life and loss, but he’s unafraid to explore and confront political concerns on occasion with sharp, insightful lyrics. Earlier albums, in Taylor’s own words, focussed on his London hometown and the “hard-living existence of a troubadour” but for his new album, Taylor chose to ring the change and record in Austin, Texas with long-time collaborator and producer Mark Hallman.

The result is his seventh album “The Only Good Addiction Is Love” which Taylor describes as a celebration of poetry and language, one reflected by tracks such as “Rothko” and “Lorca” - respective homages to expressionist painter Mark Rothko and poet Federico Garcia Lorca.

Since its release in the summer of 2015, the album (which features his regular touring partner, legendary double-bass player, Danny Thompson amongst others) has garnered high praise and great reviews.

On the live circuit, Sean Taylor has toured the UK, Europe and Australia and has supported Robert Cray, Eric Bibb, Richard Thompson, Tom Paxton and Arlo Guthrie.

He has played Glastonbury on three occasions and appeared at the Cambridge Folk Festival and Celtic Connections and his attention to regular touring has made him a popular draw on the blues, roots and folk scenes
