Alasdair Roberts has had a remarkable career to date, starting his music-making in the mid-nineties (under the band name Appendix Out) and collaborating widely with many musicians in the intervening twenty years as well as artists from other disciplines such as film makers, poets and puppeteers. He has worked with Drag City Records since 1997, firstly releasing three albums of self-written material under the name Appendix Out and then several albums under his own name, the most recent being the self-titled "Alasdair Roberts" (Drag City, 2015). He has also released music on labels such as Secretly Canadian, Galaxia and Stone Tape Recordings. His work mainly consists of two parallel strands: self-written song material, and interpretations of traditional songs and ballads from Scotland and beyond.
“Few, if any, artists are pushing the boundaries of traditional music further.” - Uncut 9/10
“To describe Alasdair Roberts as a singer-songwriter is akin to saying Stephen Hawking is quite interested in physics.” - Mojo
“A master of scordatura techniques on the guitar… an exceptional lyricist… the sound of new myths and new music being hewn from folk’s stone.” - The Wire
