Brahms' Requiem in his own 2-piano version

Presented by: Camden Choir
0LONDON: St Paul, Covent Garden
PSaturday 19th March, 2016
N7:00pm

Event information

Johannes Brahms' much-loved Requiem has seven movements, the most famous of which is Wie lieblich sind deine Wohnungen (How lovely are thy Dwellings), frequently heard on Classic FM. Six movements were written between 1865 and 1868 and first performed on Good Friday of that year, with the composer conducting. The seventh, introducing a soprano soloist, was subsequently added.
The Camden Choir's performance will be sung in the original German using the composer's piano version for four hands, as in the British première on 10 July 1871. Two pianos will be used in this performance. CONCERT BEGINS AT 7.30 PM.
The soloists will be the Flemish-born soprano Charlotte Schoeters and Alex Otterburn, baritone. In June last year Charlotte sang in an all-Bach concert at the St Thomas Kirche in Leipzig, which was part of a collaboration between the Royal Academy of Music and the Julliard School in New York, and was conducted by Masaaki Suzuki. Alex has performed widely in opera and oratorio, and this appearance with the Camden Choir will directly follow a week of performances of Rimsky Korsakov's May Night at the Ambika 3 Centre on Marylebone Road.
The pianists will be Barbara Manning and Sue Graham Smith. Barbara has been accompanist to the Ware Choral Society since 1994, while Sue is Musical Director at the St Michael & All Angels Church in Berkhamsted and accompanist to the Harlow Chorus and Hertford Choral Society.
