Neils Children
NEILS CHILDREN formed in late 2000 after meeting at underground psychedelic clubs in North London. They formed in order to play a contradicting mix of their favourite music.
Sometimes mistaken as a shot at aimless 1970s punk-by-numbers, their sound is a lot more complicated mix of late 1960s underground UK psychedelia, late 1970s post-punk and dub reggae, plus the sensibility of various eras pop music and disco.
Hip ears will dig all of these influences out of there songs, from the disco-for-punks song 'Trying to be someone else for free', to the Syd Barrett influenced acid breakdown freakout 'Run before we can walk' to the perfect dark-pop sensibility of the Cure influenced 'Never has living without someone been so hard'.
Having played over 200 live shows (including dates with Bloc Party, Rapture, Numbers and Razorlight) , the band have built up a fearsome live reputation that rivals many of their peer's.
O. Children
O.Children are a London based four piece band who have been together for just eight months. In that short time lead singer and songwriter Tobias O'Kandi has been busy writing and the band, as a whole, have been putting the live set together. Despite only a dozen gigs under their belt they can still boast playing at The Barfly, The Macbeth and The Amersham Arms as well as supporting Teenagers In Tokyo, Collapsing Cities and the Wild Beasts. Not bad for such a new band.
The O.Children sound is very much on that Post Punk/New Wave/Goth tip with great pop sensibilities. Obvious references include The Birthday Party, Joy Division, Wire, Magazine, The Cramps and even the Scars. Raw guitars, driving bass, militant drumming and a vocal that's hard to forget O.Children are certainly a band to keep an eye out for.
