‘The Purple Project’ represents the talents of some of the finest musicians working on the live circuit today. The band members are all session musicians who have worked with many top names in the industry, including Glenn Hughes and Don Airey (Deep Purple), Graham Bonnet and Doogie White (Rainbow), Bernie Marsden, Micky Moody and Neil Murray (Whitesnake), to name but a few.
The Purple Project does not consider itself to be a ‘tribute act’ as such, as front man Paul Wrightson explains. “When the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra performs a piece of Beethoven, they’re not referred to as a ‘Beethoven Tribute Act’; well, the same principle applies to us – we are musicians who individually have other projects on the go, but every so often we meet up to play Deep Purple’s music. Being great fans of Deep Purple ourselves, the Purple Project is very much a labour of love.” Clearly the fans agree with the band’s approach – that the focus should always be on the music, rather than ‘dressing up’ to look the part.
