Are We Strangers Now? is proud to present a headline show from the amazingly talented JAMES HARRIES.
Support comes from Megan Dixon Hood and Dom Major.
JAMES HARRIES:
British singer-songwriter James Harries is an established and well-respected troubadour also known for his film music (his music has featured in 16 US, British, Czech, Polish & Danish feature films). He regularly tours Europe and the USA and has also played dozens of concerts in Asia.
He won widespread recognition with his 2013 album “Voice Memos”, which was recorded entirely on his mobile phone whilst on tour across Europe, and through word of mouth and social media it gained him an even larger fan base. It is regarded as the first album in the world to be officially released that was recorded on a phone.
Fans and critics have often compared him to Ryan Adams, Damien Rice and Jeff Buckley. Rolling Stone wrote that he has “a golden voice”.
The follow up to this intimate lo-fi recording is an expansive studio album entitled “Until The Sky Bends Down”. Released in late 2015 on Tranzistor, it has attracted glowing reviews, radio play in Europe and the US as well as going down a storm with critics and fans alike.
The first single “Salvation” is a mind blower if you’ve followed his career up until now. The near whimsical romanticism of a young singer/songwriter has not completely gone but a new matured sound has emerged, a new pop sensibility with powerfully beautiful and vast arrangements and lyrics full of life and hope. His writing and voice have and always will be his powers and they are intact and better than ever.
MEGAN DIXON HOOD:
Megan Dixon Hood combines haunting melodies with ethereal lead vocals through her piano folk-infused songs, delivering atmospheric melodies that are creative, yet heartfelt. With songs stepping into the darker side of her music, she is experimenting further with her band to create an enchanting and climatic sound.
Coming off the back of a string of festival appearances including Liverpool Sound City, 2000 Trees and main stage at Glass Butter Beach, Megan achieved success with her first single ‘Early Morning Riser’, which also won ‘Single of the Year’ for Staffordshire and Cheshire Music Awards. After catching the attention of BBC Radio 2’s Weekend Wogan Show, it received plaudits from with in the industry including that of BRIT Awards Winner Rag’N’Bone Man, earning her a support slot with him at Manchester’s Sound Control. Her enchanting sound has been recognised by Caffe Nero, choosing to play two of her songs from her first EP’s to be part of their worldwide Caffe Nero playlist, before inviting her to play Cornbury Festival 2016. The Manchester Evening News recently named Megan no.5 in the top Manchester Bands and Acts to Look out For 2017.
DOM MAJOR:
Set in a genre of his own, Dom Major has been described as ‘Alt Americana’. Touted by the Independent as “One to watch”, Dom transfers his unique outlook of the ever changing world into songs crafted with honesty and fragility.
