About to record their hotly anticipated fourth album, tonight’s gig will feature lots of new music plus old faves. Partisans are one of the first of the new wave of UK jazz bands to be influenced as much by Jimi Hendrix as by Miles Davis or Sonny Rollins – their visceral, groove-based sound combines bop lines with rock riffs and flowing melodies, bridging the gap between New York swing and rock. Julian Siegel (sax, bass clarinet), Phil Robson (guitar), Thaddeus Kelly (bass), Gene Calderazzo (drums) plus Jim Watson (organ). ‘Jazz that makes you blink in its glare’ (The Guardian).
