Event information
Meet two of the most exciting new voices in fiction – Michael Donkor and Sharlene Teo – and hear about their dazzling debut novels.
Michael Donkor was born in London in 1985. One of The Observer’s ‘New Faces of Fiction’ in 2018, his first novel, HOLD, will be published by 4th Estate in July 2018. Moving between Ghana and London, HOLD is an intimate, moving, powerful coming-of-age novel. It’s a story of friendship and family, shame and forgiveness; of learning what we should cling to, and when we need to let go.
Sharlene Teo was born in Singapore in 1987. Her debut novel, Ponti, was published in May 2018. Ponti is an exquisite story of friendship and memory, told from the perspectives of three women. Infused with mythology and modernity, with the rich sticky heat of Singapore, it is at once an astounding portrayal of the gaping loneliness of teenagehood, and a vivid exploration of how tragedy can make monsters of us.
