Alt-country legend Jason Ringenberg will be making his first appearance at the Green Note tonight, Thursday, July 16. Ringenberg, the frontman for the cowpunk pioneers Jason and the Scorchers, is noted for his barn burning sweat laced shows. Even though he will be solo, expect a high energy, highly interactive performance. This will not be your typical solo guy sitting on a stool telling sensitive stories about his childhood! The Times called him “one of the most dynamic performers of his generation.”
Ringenberg moved to Nashville in 1981 from his parents hog farm that bordered the Rock Island Line railroad. Immediately he fell in with the rockinest musicians in Nashville: Warner Hodges, Jeff Johnson, and Perry Baggs. They released FERVOR in 1983 which earned them EP of the Year in the New York Times and ignited the world with their no holds barred live shows. Melody Maker called their 1984 Marquee show “one of the Top Five gigs of all time”. Years of accolades and record releases followed. Last year they received the Americana Music Association Lifetime Achievement Award for Performance.
Ringenberg went solo in 1998 and has released 4 solo cds, A Pocketful of Soul being named Associated Press Country Record of the Year. Five years ago he created a children’s character called Farmer Jason, which just won an Emmy Award for Best Children’s Programming. He will be performing songs from his entire 30 year career at the Green Note.
