The Annie Whitehead World Music Workshop Big Band
Big band music from Africa, Cuba & the Carribean, USA and the UK, by
composers as diverse as Ellington, Don Drummond, Dudu Pukwana and
Herbie Hancock, under the direction of trombone virtuoso Annie
Whitehead, supported by a rhythm section of Jennifer Maidman (bass),
Mark Huggett (drums), Caroline Rowlinson (perc.) and Trevor Wells
(guitar). They will also premiere a new work by their own Peter Clark
and two new arrangements by Paul Bartholomew of Mbawula. ‘Jazz pick of
the week: Classic American, South African and UK jazz, played by
20-horn workshop band led by lyrical trombonist Whitehead’ (Guardian
Guide).
