The Addison Oratorio and Chamber Choirs return to live music-making with a concert on November 27th, their first performance in front of an audience for almost two years. After such a difficult period it seems appropriate that the Oratorio Choir should sing that most consoling of works, the Fauré Requiem, written by the composer as a memorial to both his parents, and a work whose central message is comfort and light to both the departed and the bereaved, something on the minds of us all over the past eighteen months. We’ll also celebrate Cecilia McDowall’s 70th birthday year as she’s been a long-time supporter of the Addison Singers - the Oratorio Choir by singing her uplifting anthem ‘Christ is the morning star’, whilst the Chamber Choir perform her luminous ‘O Oriens’ (‘O Morning Star, splendour of light eternal…’). The Chamber Choir also sing movements from Rachmaninov’s glorious and moving ‘All-Night Vigil’ and illustrate their commitment to contemporary music by performing the short ‘Two Choral Fanfares’ by Bernard Hughes, the first of which sets Siegfried Sassoon’s famous poem, ‘Everyone Sang’ – “Everyone suddenly burst out singing” - is there a more suitable text to sing after all these months of silence? We hope that everyone will enjoy this uplifting concert.

COVID-19 info:
The church is large and airy and doors will be open for air circulation so please wear warm clothes. Masks are optional but we will be happy to seat you separately near the back if you feel particularly vulnerable. With Covid safety in mind, there will be no interval in this concert but we'll be serving refreshments and mince pies beforehand. If possible we would appreciate you taking a self Lateral Flow Test before coming, and of course should you feel unwell please do not come.
