BRAHMS Academic Festival Overture
R.STRAUSS Horn Concerto No. 2
PRICE Symphony No. 1

Trinity Orchestra
Conductor: John Andrews
Horn soloist: Ben Goldscheider

Join Trinity Orchestra in Northwood Hills for an evening of contrasting orchestral works, conducted by John Andrews.

The concert opens with Brahms’ vigorous and tuneful Academic Festival Overture, one of the composer’s happier and most accessible compositions.

Florence Price, born in 1887, and whose unjustly neglected Symphony No. 1 will end this programme, was the first Afro-American woman composer to gain national recognition. Incorporating spirituals, blues and dance influences, her music fuses two worlds, taking a part of her own musical heritage and reimagining it with a classical orchestra.

To perform the concert’s centerpiece, Richard Strauss’ Horn Concerto No. 2, Trinity Orchestra is delighted to welcome back the superb young horn player Ben Goldscheider, recently named as one of Classic FM’s Rising Stars of 2022. The work, written late in Strauss’ life during World War II and dedicated to his father, a horn player, is surprisingly light-hearted and carefree in style.

Join John Andrews for a free pre-concert talk at 7pm.
