fRoots Magazine & Green Note proudly present... PAMELA WYN SHANNON
fRoots said: "American singer-songwriters are two a penny, but in the past couple of years just a few have stood head and shoulders above the hundreds who send us CDs to review. Pamela Wyn Shannon deserves to be one of those who, like Devon Sproule, gets adopted as a favourite by UK music fans, maybe becoming more appreciated here than in her home country. She's an Anglophile anyway and, apart from the sheer quality of her songcraft, singing and guitar playing, there aren't many who get mentored by Sweeney's Men founder Johnny Moynihan (who reckons she reminds him of his old friend Anne Briggs) or endorsed by Shirley Collins ('A most beautiful albumŠ gentle and sensitiveŠ utterly lovely, so sweetly poignantŠ made me shiver') after first meeting at the Green Man festival."
And of her most recent album Courting Autumn, "Magic: this deeply charming CD is a breath of fresh autumn air, replete with all the melancholy beauty of that season . . . infused with the feel of halcyon early-70s UK psych-folk, but is arguably even more timeless: it transplants English Gothic into New England . . . Pamela's voice is brilliantly complemented by her well-developed guitar playing, which is at the same time deftly intricate and hauntingly full-toned . . . a very special, seriously beautiful album, which also has the measure (though not the more undesirable pretensions) of a personal artistic statement: one of considerable power, originality and vision."
