Event information

BRIDGET ST JOHN is gifted with a beautiful lilting voice perfectly suited to her gently understated guitar style; along with Sandy Denny, she was cited by John Peel as his favourite female singer.

Arriving on the 'scene' through the late 60's folk circuit she quickly emerged onto the wider 'underground' scene; working with Ron Geesin, Kevin Ayers, and various members of King Crimson, Jethro Tull & Ten Years after.

Bridget recorded three albums for John Peel's Dandelion label including the masterpiece 'Songs for a Gentleman' which has been compared to 'Sgt Peppers' for it's far reaching sonic experimentalism and in '74 was awarded 5th place in the Melody Maker 'most popular female vocalist' poll. Moving to New York in '76 Bridget quietly slipped from view whilst raising her daughter.

Aside from work under her own name, Bridget St John has also recorded with Mike Oldfield (on Amarok), Kevin Ayers and Robin Frederick. In 2007 she reunited with Kevin Ayers to record on his album The Unfairground in New York. They duetted on the song "Baby Come Home". Most recently she has collaborated with Avant Garde 'folkist' Devandra Banhart.

MICHAEL CHAPMAN: The guitar and voice of Michael Chapman first became known on the Folk Circuit in 1967. Playing a blend of atmospheric and autobiographical material he quickly established a reputation for intensity and innovation.

He has continued to work and grow, developing his unique 'voice' and guitar style to a level of mastery that makes him almost impossible to categorise; leading to him being awarded an Austrian Grammy in 2007 (best acoustic album).

This self-styled old white blues guy from Yorkshire is one of the most under-rated heroes of our time.
