Event information

These guys are simply stunning. Virtuosic, heartbreaking, rhythmically stomping – all superlatives well deserved of this much vaunted power trio, we think you’ll leave with a huge grin on your face after hearing two sets of hearty music from the Dunajska Kapelye Balkan Gypsy Jazz band.

The band is comprised of a truly multi-national line up with Piotr Jordan (violin) from Poland, Jez Cook (guitar) from England and Viktor Obsust (bass) from Serbia. Whilst this is a relatively newly formed trio, the members have all performed with each other in many different line-ups and they are all recognised as masters of their own instruments and particularly as top level players of gypsy jazz.

Piotr was born and brought up in Lodz, Poland and started playing the violin at age 6. After studying at the Warsaw Conservatory he moved to Prague. He has lived and worked in England as a professional violinist since 1994 playing in numerous bands in a variety of styles ranging from Hot Club Jazz to Gaelic to Hungarian Gypsy music.

Viktor started teaching piano for adults at the tender age of 15. While at Bratislava State Conservatoire, he taught double bass and piano at junior level. Awarded a scholarship to attend Master of Arts course in Music Education (MA Mus Ed) at Trinity College of Music, he developed skills as a creative workshop leader.

Jez Cook, a regular on the Gypsy Jazz circuit regularly plays with such luminaries as Ian Cruickshank & Chris Haigh, familiar to many at Le Quecumbar and throughout Europe playing virtuoso Django-style guitar.

“Extreme, virtuoso Balkan Gypsy Jazz” – London Time Out

“For wholly virtuosity, Dunajska are hard to beat” – Chris Parker, Vortex Jazz Club

“Piotr Jordan chose to break our hearts with the beauty of his sound” Jack Masserik, Evening Standard”
