Take the opportunity to hear all of your favourite arias, lead by our outstanding soloists; soprano Jenny Saunders and tenor David Morris. We will be kicking off in style with Rossini’s Overture to the Barber of Seville, before performing a showcase of popular arias by Italian greats, including Puccini's wonderful love duet from La Boheme. Respighi’s glittering “Fountains of Rome” will transport the audience to the sparkling water cascades of the Valle Giulia at dawn, to the Triton Fountain, the Fountain of Trevi and to the fountain at the Villa Medici at sunset. Respighi’s evocative melodies are supported by the atmospheric sound of multiple harps and piano – a first for Peterborough!

Verdi’s Force of Destiny overture is urgent and baleful, the inspiration behind many of the mafia movie scores. We follow this with a delightful trio of Italian arias by Rossini, Verdi and Puccini including the wonderful drinking song from La Traviata; and of course no operatic showcase would be complete without Nessun Dorma! Finally, a drama by an Englishman, set to music by a Russian depicts love, passion and strife in Verona in Tchaikovsky’s dramatic and ever popular tone poem, Romeo and Juliet. You cannot afford to miss this wonderful treat of popular Italian masterpieces!
