It's our pleasure to announce that we have the biggest rising country star on the planet, the fabulous Eilen Jewell and her incredible band coming to play for us right here in Brighton. Anyone who saw her play here in the past when the much missed Gilded Palace Of Sin brought her to town will know this is not to be missed. Jewell's music has the languorous quietude of (Gillian) Welch or Norah Jones, but there is something more direct, almost in your face, about her stark, neo traditional melodies, subdued vocals, and confident, slow-swaying groove. It's as if she's daring us to say we miss the bells and whistles of pop...Jewell's songs are achingly good, twanged-out elegies to a world of barbed wire, rusty trucks, and a frontier that no longer exists.

Eilen and her band packed the venue out last time they played here so don't miss out on seeing one the best country stars around today. Her new album Loretta Lynn covers wil be out in the UK this summer.

BARTON CARROLL

If you are one of these people who often skip the support act, we strongly advise you to reverse those thoughts on this occasion because this man is not to be missed.

Seattle-based musician Barton Carroll began touring with Crooked Fingers in 2002, playing guitar, steel guitar, and upright bass. He appeared on the Crooked Fingers albums Crooked Fingers and Dignity and Shame. He also served as an accompanist with Azure Ray, Dolorean, and Micah P. Hinson.

Carroll's fourth solo album, Together You and I, marks a great step forward from his previous releases, which were mostly solid collections of studied songs and varied lives. On the new material, he sounds more comfortable in these disparate points of view, and thanks to producer Graig Markel, he can better bend the musical elements to reinforce the lyrics.
