Violent London: 2000 Years of Riots, Rebels and Revolts

0LONDON: Bishopsgate Institute
PThursday 7th October, 2010
N7:30pm

Event information

Almost as soon as it was built, London suffered the first of many acts of violent protest when Boudica and her followers set fire to the city in AD 60. Ever since, the capital's streets have been a forum for popular insurrection. Covering nearly 2,000 years of political protest, Clive Bloom explores a riveting alternative history of past and present conflict from medieval and Tudor riots and Fifth Monarchist disturbances through to terrorism and fundamentalist politics and protest in London today.

Clive Bloom is Emeritus Professor of English and American Studies at Middlesex University. Widely published and series editor of Palgrave Macmillan's Crime File series, he is the author of Bestsellers: Popular Fiction Since 1900, Literature, Politics and Intellectual Crisis in Britain Today and Cult Fiction, amongst many other titles.

This event is organised in partnership with Newham Bookshop.
