HYPERPOTAMUS

2009 was quite a year for the Spanish one man band a capella wunderkind, Hyperpotamus, who makes a'cappella music with four microphones and a loop station pedal. After self-releasing his astounding debut album "Largo Bailon", it's been non stop for this quirky human being: he's played on the banks of the Danube River in Bratislava, under a staircase in Amsterdam, at a squathouse in Berlin, a macro-discotheque in Lisbon, a saloon in Texas, a civic centre in Tijuana, under an organ pipe in Belfast, surrounded by skyscrapers in Los Angeles, at a retirement home in Bilbao, in a cave in Andalusia and in New York City's oldest bar. Hyperpotamus's live show is a spectacle not to be missed. This man is one of a kind.

+ LAURA J MARTIN

Laura J Martin hails from the suburbs of Liverpool with influences that ricochet between Serge Gainsbourg, Wu Tang Clan, David Bowie and Herbie Mann. Armed with flute, mandolin and loop station, she sings over her loops and beats, songs inspired by Japanese folkore to real life sentiments and characters.
