SHIRIFUNE “BUTT BOAT” (film screening)
SOBAMESHI (live)
BO NINGEN (dj set)
+ Authentic Osaka Okonomiyaki on sale!
With his previous film 'Rainmaker', director Moriro Miyamoto became the focus of much attention due to his aesthetic sensitivity said to be that of a film-maker 20 years his senior.
In stark contrast to 'Rainmaker', which was shot in Berlin, Glasgow, Vietname, the Tottori sand dunes and Osaka, his new production 'Butt Boat' was filmed entirely within the city of Osaka. His inspiration: butt paintings.
Taking this obscure underground phenomenon as his topic, Miyamoto put onto film a noisy syntax of scenes saturated with the indigenous beat of Osaka. Featuring not only members of the Osaka music scene, but also distinguished collaborators from various fields both in front of and behind the camera. 'Butt Boat' boisterously shines with the young talent of the Kansai region.
In particular, members of the band OSHIRI PENPENZ were a cornerstone of the production, contributing music and sound recording as well as appearing in the film.
Positive responses to 'Butt Boat' have come from several leading filmmakers, artists and musicians including JOJO Hiroshige, Shinji Imaoka, Mitsuru Meike, Shinsuke Michishita, Go Shibata, Tetsuya Umeda, Taichi Oka, Tetsujin Yajirushi and Hitoshi Odajima.
"The right eye spells your fortune, the left eye filled with light, standing tall with a backbone of chaos, this is Palace Noir!!"
"'Butt Boat' is a marvel of film, music and performance, leading you on a journey as it reveals the abstract formations of a dense and beautiful dream" - JOJO Hiroshige (of Hijokaidan)

Morio Miyamoto (Writer, Director, Cinematographer, Editor)
Born in 1981, Miyamoto is an entirely self-taught filmmaker. His decision to become a director came whilst on an architectural field trip to Europe in 2002, and upon returning to Japan he began by making several short films. His first feature-length work 'Yoshio Yoshimura WALKING, SLEEPING' (2005), won the grand prize at the Nakanoshima Film Festival. After that his short 'Scent of Tomorrow' was selected for the 2005 Berlin Asia Pacific Film Festival.
The filming of 'Rainmaker' was aided by the support of the Cineastes Organization Osaka Exhibition (CO2), and the film battled for the CO2 grand prize against Satoko Yokohama's 'German+Ame", winner of The Director's Guild of Japan's Best Newcomer 2007. At CO2, 'Rainmaker' was awarded the newly established prize for 'Best Overall Production'. The film was screened at several festivals including Oskariada 2008 in Poland and the Japan FilmFest Hamburg.
Miyamoto's other notable credits include the hour-long 'Isiurez', workshop short film 'Mr Bukabuka', music videos for Oshiri PenPenz 'Dreams Come True, DODDODO's 'Neco Ga Nya - Te Inu Ga Wan!', Eseroman's 'Giga Taishou', Oni (from Afriramp)'s 'Ajisai' and the experimental film 'Islets of Landerhans' with Pikachu from Afrirampo.
