ZOO THOUSAND MUSIC FESTIVAL 2008

Port Lympne Wild Animal Park, Lympne, Nr Ashford, Kent, CT21 4PD

Friday 4th July - Sunday 6th July 2008

www.zoothousand.com

Music meets mammal, set in the stunning Kent countryside

Zoo Thousand Music Festival is undoubtedly the newest and most exciting thing to hit the South East in decades. Taking place at the beautiful Port Lympne Wild Animal Park in The Garden of England, over 100 top live acts, bands and DJs will perform beside the park's mix of ferocious, fearsome and friendly animals. Catering for a range of musical tastes, Zoo Thousand and Eight (ZOO8) will feature Indie, dance, UK hip-hop, breaks, drum and bass as well as the more family-friendly chart sounds. The festival will accommodate 20,000 revellers and camping is onsite, meaning that it will be among the largest music festivals in the South East

A car-sharing scheme is in place to minimise the number of visitors arriving by vehicle, and there will be a tree-planting initiative to take part in. While the animals will be kept at a safe distance from the crowds and artists in the 600-acre site, you will be able to visit the Animal Park which is home to The Palace of the Apes, the biggest gorillarium in the world and the largest breeding herd of black rhino outside Africa as well as Siberian and Indian tigers, African elephants and many endangered species besides. There will even be the opportunity to take the African Experience Safari, where giraffes, rhinos, wildebeest, ostrich and antelope roam free.

Kids 5 & under go for free.

At Zoo Thousand we take environmental and animal conservation very seriously.

Zoo Thousand's Conservation Statement.

We have undertaken to put on a series of music festivals to help some of the UK's best Zoos that lead the way in animal conservation. We have chosen only Zoos that subscribe to the highest standards of animal welfare - both in policy and practice. The conservation of both wild animals and their natural habitats is fundamental to our mission and working with international charities to conserve habitats and promote sustainability is key. It is a sad fact that humans are likely to cause the extinction of a quarter of all known species in the next 20 years unless we work to protect them now. If just one species disappears, many others may suffer, as all species rely on others to survive, and upsetting this balance can put many in danger. New Research has found that protecting areas rich in wildlife from development may have a significant effect in preventing future disease emergence in humans. To read more go to http://www.zsl.org

There are hundreds of animal conservation websites on the internet but here are a few you should look at if you want to know more.

Zoo Thousand's environmental policies.

We believe that all festivals should consider the impact they have on the environment and whilst we recognise it will be hard to have a 100% environmentally friendly festival we also think that nothing is impossible - you have to start somewhere!

So here's what we are doing to help on this year's Zoo Thousand festival:

* All cups, plates, burger boxes and kitchen utensils will be made from 100% compostable materials. Our bio-plastic products will have the same qualities as conventional plastics in terms of function and appearance, but they will be made from plants, which makes them 100% biodegradable and compostable. Bio-plastic has a number of advantages. Firstly the process through which bio-plastic is made requires less energy than conventional plastics and this results in lower carbon emissions. Secondly bio-plastic disposal is carbon-neutral. This is because bio-plastic is made from plants which take carbon from the atmosphere during their growth. Any carbon emitted to the atmosphere on disposal has therefore been previously removed, neutralising its effect. Thirdly, if bio-plastic is disposed of with organic waste it will compost within six to eight weeks, producing a natural fertiliser. Our waste will be composted locally to further reduce any carbon emissions.
* We are offering incentives to promote car-sharing among our customers in order help reduce carbon emissions. Any customers with 3 or more people in their car upon arrival at the festival will be offered free parking. Any with 2 or fewer will be charged ten pounds.
* We will be introducing the use of solar power to run some parts of the festival.
* We will be recycling all other consumables such as plastic and glass bottles, paper and cardboard. This we will be done locally to further reduce emissions.
* We will be recycling all waste cooking oil to turn it into biodiesel. With normal production methods, every ton of fossil fuel burnt causes 3 tons of CO2 to be released into the atmosphere, whereas biodiesel only releases the CO2 that was absorbed by the oil-producing plants during their growth. Even allowing for the use of fertilisers, there is a much smaller impact on the carbon cycle.
* Our flyers are made with 100% recycled paper.
* The toilet rolls used will be made from 100% recycled paper.
* We will be offering a tree planting service to our customers to help encourage them to reduce their carbon footprint.
* We will promoting the use of fair trade products with our third party suppliers.

For the future Zoo Thousand festivals in years to come we hope to:

* Use generators to supply our power that run on biodiesel to help reduce carbon emissions.
* Become a 100% carbon-neutral company.
* Expand the use of solar power and conservation technology at our events.
* Reduce or eliminate non recyclable waste from the festival.

Car Parking

There is extensive security patrolled parking on site which is free based on 3 or more people sharing a car. Why not contact others travelling to the festival on the car-sharing websites or on our website message boards at www.zoothousand.com to help cut c02 emissions and save the environment!! Parking is also free with those with VIP tickets

FREE Car parking for cars with 3 or more people on arrival. Cars with Two persons or less will be charged at £5 for parking.

Animal Welfare

Don't worry NO animals will be caused any distress whilst staging Zoo8. The festival will be taking place on the grasslands arena which is separate to the wildlife park and well away from the animals. We take animal welfare very seriously which is why this event is in partnership with the Aspinal foundation to help raise funds to help endangered species.... It also enables festival goers to visit the park and see the animals and the great work that is done at Port Lympne.
